Scuba Travel are proud to be the first and only company to offer liveaboard diving in Sri Lanka. Now peace has come to the country the North East of the Island is open for tourists and for divers to explore this remote area. And what treasures there are to be discovered! It has recently come to light that both Blue and Sperm Whales frequent these waters in Spring and early Summer. Both adults and calves are spotted almost on a daily basis in the Bay of Bengal off Trincomalee. Then there are the numerous wrecks, the most evocative and important being the aircraft carrier Hermes. Sunk by the Japanese Airforce in 1942, she now sits upright in 53 meters, decks and superstructure in the 30-40 meter range. Add to this the remote Great and Little Basses, two remote rocky reefs with historic wreckage, and the abundant scenic diving in the Trincomalee area, this is truly a unique and rewarding diving area waiting to be discovered
Aquarius departs from Trincomalee, the largest natural harbour in Sri Lanka. After a check dive in the area the boat moves South towards the location of the Hermes, making warm up dives en-route. There follows several days diving the Hermes, with an option of a shallower wreck dive in the afternoons. During this time there is an option for an overnight passage further South to the Basses, depending on the guests wishes and the weather conditions. The trip closes with a morning whale watching and snorkelling in the sea off Trincomalee. This itinerary is more suited to the more experienced diver, wreck enthusiasts and of course photographers. The Hermes is an ideal dive to gain additional Tek training with our Tek Guru Mark Powell or to try out those new toys. Also a great opportunity for photographers to capture those wide angle competition winning wreck shots. Look out for trips escorted by our Wreck and Photo expert Mike Ward . Finally who wouldn't want to see and photograph Whales? A rare opportunity to come home with unrepeatable photos and memories! Float away in the heart of the Bay of Bengal in total dive seclusion. Feel the rush of exploring completely virgin dive sites in an ever shrinking world - dive Sri Lanka today before the secret gets out.
