Option 1 - Sipadan - Mabul Resort

Sipadan Island is a small tropical rainforest covered volcanic island peak that rises steeply from the depths of 600m from the Celebes Sea. Only 30 acres in area and never more than a few metres above sea-level. It boasts to have the best beach diving, with deep drop-offs only metres from the shore. The island is the top of a long-lost lava chimney from a prehistoric volcano. The very famous late French underwater explorer and filmmaker, Jacques-Yves Cousteau once remarked about Sipadan Island “I have seen other places like Sipadan… 45 years ago. Now we have found again an untouched piece of art.” Although said many years ago, it is still true today. The island is arguably on most divers top 10 dive destination in the world. The numbers of divers allowed daily into Sipidan is strictly limited to 120 per day, making it an exclusive location to add to your logbook resume.  Water temp 28-30c.

Mabul Island's

greatness lies in its silty bottom macro eco system, which is a haven for small critters and invertebrate marine life. This is a world of uniquely named 'muck diving' – every photographer’s dream environment. Look out for the Pygmy Seahorses. And the close proximity to Sipidan contrasting dives makes it a dive destination worth remembering.

The land based life of Malaysia is equally worth investigating with possible Orang-Utan, hornbill and gibbon spots. It is this combination of verdant tropical landscape and varied diving makes Malaysia the dive holiday with a difference.

BORNEO DIVERS’ - MABUL DIVE RESORT

Borneo Divers Mabul Dive Resort  or commonly named BDMR, occupies a tranquil streach of white sandy beach. Easy access to the water provides for effortless shore and boat diving.

Originally designed as a second base in the region to complement the Sipadan Resort. With the new conservation project in progress, BDMR has been promoted to the flagship operation and base for diving both Sipadan and Mabul.

BDMR was built for divers needs in mind and every detail mapped out. The accommodation is provided in attractive and comfortable chalets, all with a view of the beach and the Borneo Mainland in the distance.

The resort is set in a peaceful uncrowded location, which allows you to relax and unwind. Since the dive sites are close, frequently you will return to the resort for your surface interval so you can enjoy the balmy tropical breezes on your private veranda.

The chalets are constructed from hardwoods in a local style. Ceiling fans and tropical breezes provide ample cooling and ventilation. Plus each chalet is equiped with full air conditioning. All units have either twin or double size beds. Private ensuite bathrooms provide modern hot showers and toilet facilities. Amenities such as hair dryers and reading lamps are available in all rooms. Each room has a comfortable sofa for relaxing with your favorite book. All rooms have been upgraded to deluxe level.

The dining hall is central to BDMR which includes the front desk, shop and entertainment centre. Food for divers is just as important as the diving, and BDMR are proud of their indulgent meals as they are of their diving management. Meals offered are Malaysian, Asian, Japanese, Chinese and Western dishes. The ‘steamboat’ dinners or barbecue specials are a must. Breakfast is cooked to order each day. In the evenings you can enjoy a beer from the bar, listen to the live band, watch a video or enjoy Karaoke. Alternatively retire to your private veranda for peace and tranquility!

When it's dive time, you won't have to walk far from you chalet or even carry your equipment. The fully equipped dive center is just a few steps from the beach. You won't have to carry your scuba equipment, as the friendly dive staff will have your tanks, weights and BC's ready for you on the boat. Just hop on and off with your mask and fins (and obligatory camera). Gear rental is available on request and separate rinse tanks for cameras and videos are provided.

All divers are required to complete a standard check out boat dive at Mabul. Boats leave for offshore dive sites three times each day, with two dives in the morning and one dive in the afternoon.

The dive sites at Mabul and Kapalai are all within and easy five to ten minutes boat ride. Sites to Sipadan are 15 minutes away (diving at Sipadan is subject to permits being available and prevailing weather conditions on any given day).

Turtle Cavern
- The cavern itself is large and intriguing. Turtle skeletons rest on the sea-bed - apparently having met their doom in the confusing passageways of the cavern. Don't worry - those passageways are much too small for you and this is an easy and interesting dive to add to the other excellent sites.

Unlimited shore diving is available at the jetty house reef. Extra boat dives can be arranged locally at an additional fee, as can night dives.

Whale Sharks are frequent visitors and may be seen in schools of more than 20. So keep you eyes peeled.
