Twinset Diver Specialty Course (2 days)

The Professional Scuba Association International’s Twin Set Diver course is designed to train divers to properly use twin cylinders (doubles) for recreational diving activities. It will discuss the configuration and the peripheral equipment, as well as accessories and maintenance.


Course Objectives and Qualifications 


Course objectives

The PSAI Twin Set Diving course offers the certified diver a program where they will understand the principles of twin set diving. The course provides the necessary information to know the proper procedures to:

  • Assemble a twin set for the planned dive.
  • Perform a systems check (buddy check) prior to a planned dive.
  • Perform the planned dive including descent, bottom phase, and ascent.
  • Perform a gas shut down and isolation procedure.
  • Buoyancy techniques associated with twin set diving.

Propulsion Techniques;

  • Frog Kick
  • Modified Frog Kick
  • Full Turns
  • Reversing skills

Advanced Control

  • Controlled descents/ascents
  • Horizontal placement, Hovering, trim
  • Out of Gas and primary rescue drills

Streamlining

  • Using wing/harness systems
  • Single or twinset setups
  • Canister torch, hose placements
  • Utilising Stage Bottles

The PSAI Twin Set Diving course requires the use of the PSAI Twin Set Diving manual. This manual will have all the necessary information to appropriately cover, in the detail necessary for this level of certification, the following areas of information:

A. Introduction to twin set diving.

  • Why dive a twin set?
  • Twin set components.
  • Advantages / Disadvantages.
  • Twin sets – gas volumes.

B. Types of twin sets.

  • Independent doubles.
  • Manifolds.
  • Valves.
  • Valve protection.

C. Peripheral equipment.

1. BCD / Wings.

    • Single bladder / double bladder.
    • Dump valves.
    • Bungees.

2. Backplate.

    • Steel.
    • Aluminum.
    • Plastic.

3. Harness.

    • Shoulder pads.
    • D-rings.
    • Utility pockets.
    • Crotch strap. Weights.
    • V-weights.
    • P-weights.
    • Weight pockets.
    • Weight belt.

4. Regulators.

    • Long hose.
    • Neck collar (ring).

5. Accessories.

    • Back plate pocket.
    • Emergency float.

D. Diving a twin set.

    • Configuration.

Course Schedule

  • Theory session
  • 1-2 confined dives
  • 2 open water training dives max depth 30m or to max depth of student certification.


Course Qualifications

Apply the knowledge and skills outlined in this standard to plan and conduct non-decompression sport dives in environments and conditions similar to their training, when properly equipped and accompanied by another certified diver.

On completion you will be more prepared with skills to practice before embarking onto the Advanced Nitrox Diver Course.


Prerequisites

Open Water Diver, 15yrs old, 12 logged dives.


The lake training will take place either at Leybourne Lake, St.Andrews Lake, Vobster Quay, or Stoney Cove depending on the course.
